A subtle new reading of Brecht’s famous play, with the brilliant Lubna Azabal.
Right before the Thirty Years’ War, a canteen woman determined to make some money takes children and carriage on the battlefields, till she loses everything and everyone. Through this diehard character, Brecht condemned in 1941 the blind pursuit of profit. While keeping the original text, Lisbon Houbrechts chooses to highlight the tragic dilemmas experienced by an isolated woman. A play exalted by the unique visual, musical and multilingual touch of the Flemish director.
