Nacera Belaza
An open powerful round dance, a dazzling rhythm of freedom, essential bonds between unique bodies. Nacera Belaza draws inspiration from ceremonies held by Dakota natives. Dances, life stories, roots – they allow a common sense to arise and become a new imaginary world.
It’s in US Minnesota that Nacera Belaza discovered the Native American tradition of “pow wows” – a community round dance. The choreographer of Algerian origins sees a rite full of spirituality and history and tries to render its centrifugal force. Her last show gathers the audience around a group of dancers engaged in an endless movement. On every step, a local actor enters the round adding a part of himself to the collective.
