The European Creative Hub

The European Creative Hub was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Culture, together with Valenciennes Métropole and the Haut-de-France region. Today it includes 11 French organizations. Linking the local and the international worlds, its main objective lies in promoting, producing, training and supporting emerging artists and artistic teams throughout the world, as well as welcoming foreign cultures.

Regarding the Phénix, the European Creative Hub has enabled the founding members and associated artists (Boris Charmatz, Julien Gosselin, l’Amicale, Halory Goerger and the XY Company) to maintain their growth over time, providing them with a vital local support, in addition to a strong international demand.

We’ve expanded the support of emerging artists to the whole region with the CAMPUS of the European Creative Hub. Expertise, support and mentorship were implemented thanks to the pooling of resources and a common management with the Maison de la Culture d’Amiens. Since 2018, 20 local, national and European artistic teams, as well as 24 artistic projects were supported, including 4 participative think tanks involving locals.

A new generation of artists who established their creative work in the North region became known thanks to the Campus : Gurshad Shaheman, Tatiana Julien, Yuval Rozman, Noëmie Ksicova, Maëlle Dequiedt, Hugo Mallon, Rébecca Chaillon, Hugues Duchêne, Jeanne Lazar… among others. A community of artists is born, as shown in numerous collaborations and a constant sense of mutual aid.

A special international collaboration also proved to be a great achievement : the collaboration with Flanders encouraged by the NEXT festival, of which the Phénix is one of the co-organisers. So is the partnership with the National Theatre Tapei. Kaidong is an innovative convention signed for twice four years. Just like the Institut Français, foreign agencies like Dutch Performing Arts, le Centre culturel de Taïwan, Pro Helvetia, l’Institut Ramón Llull/ Catalogne or Accíon Cultural Española brought financial support to the project.

The Agence Nationale de la Recherche makes its international network of artists available to the artists from the Hub.

From 2022, the virtuous experience that was the founding of a community of artists with the Campus has driven us to carry on the support of artists : the European college was born.

Au Phénix, le pôle européen de création a permis aux artistes associés fondateurs (Boris Charmatz, Julien Gosselin, l’Amicale, Halory Goerger et la Compagnie XY) d’inscrire le développement stratégique de leurs créations dans le long terme, leur apportant en région le soutien indispensable à leur ancrage territorial en complément d’une forte sollicitation à l’international.

Nous avons élargi l’accompagnement aux artistes émergents de la région, avec le Campus du pôle européen de création. Une expertise, un accompagnement et un mentorat ont été mis en œuvre grâce à une mutualisation et un pilotage commun avec la Maison de la Culture d’Amiens. Depuis 2018, ce sont ainsi 20 équipes artistiques, majoritairement régionales, mais aussi nationales et européennes, et 24 projets qui ont été soutenus, dont 4 laboratoires participatifs impliquant les habitants du territoire. En 2022, un élargissement de cette coopération est en préfiguration en complicité avec le Manège Maubeuge, scène nationale transfrontalière, et le Théâtre du Beauvaisis Scène nationale. Une nouvelle génération d’artistes, implantant leur travail de création dans la région, a été révélée par le Campus : Gurshad Shaheman, Tatiana Julien, Yuval Rozman, Noëmie Ksicova, Maëlle Dequiedt, Hugo Mallon, Rébecca Chaillon, Hugues Duchêne, Jeanne Lazar… entre autres. Une communauté s’est créée, incarnée par de nombreux échanges et solidarités.

Une coopération internationale singulière a également été menée avec succès : la dynamique avec la Flandre impulsée par le NEXT Festival dont le Phénix est l’un des co-organisateurs, mais aussi le partenariat avec le Théâtre national de Taipei, à travers Kaidong, une convention innovante signée pour deux fois quatre ans. Comme l’Institut français, les agences étrangères telles que Dutch Performing Arts, le Centre culturel de Taïwan, Pro Helvetia, l’Institut Ramón Llull/Catalogne ou Accíon Cultural Española ont apporté un concours financier au dispositif. L’Agence Nationale de la Recherche met à disposition des artistes du pôle son réseau international de chercheurs.

A partir de 2022, l’expérience vertueuse de constitution d’une communauté avec le Campus nous a incités à poursuivre l’accompagnement des artistes en créant un Collège Européen se renouvelant chaque saison et les associant dans un dialogue commun.
